Saha/Number 8

Am I right in thinking that Saha's contract is up at the end of this season? If so, I'm not convinced he'll sign another one. He'll be 34, and will probably be starting to look at retirement, or finishing his career off back in france. Although I wouldn't have too much of a problem keeping him an extra year.


Anyway, this brings me on to my point. He currently wears the number 8 shirt for us. If you're like me, and like all your squad numbers to be all nice and traditional (A bit of me dies when I see Howard wearing number 24) then the number 8 should really be for a central midfielder.

Now, unless i'm mistaken, we seem to have 3 top young, promising central midfielders at the club. Fellaini, Rodwell and Barkley. Would anyone else like to see one of them inherit the number 8 when Saha goes? Maybe not Fellaini, as there seems to be doubts over his future with us, but if we gave it to Jack or Ross, would that not be a really strong indication that we're willing to build the team around them?

Personally, i'd give it to Rodwell. Could possibly give the lad the boost he needs.

Any thoughts? Any numbers you'd want to see members of the current squad having? Or do the rest of you have lives and not give a damn?

Ha Ha, totally with you on the numbering. Every time I start a game on FM, I make Howard don the number 1 shirt. FFS! If I ever saw Hibbert or someone wearing number 3 at right back, I would probably have my first ever Melt down.

Anyway, yes I would be all for that. I do think it means something, would be great to see Barkley or Rodwell get it.

Anyway, I kind of hope Saha stays beyond this season. Unless we get a class new striker in anyway.
