Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
i've flown with them for the last 4 years when going on my hols, i'm just going through thebooking process for my hols next year.

now, one of the things that has come up is 'web check-in' there didn't seem to be any way of taking this (which adds £50 to the bill) off the booking. i clicked a link to read the following....
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Online Check-in/Photo ID

Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, confirms that ALL passengers are now required to check-in online and bring their printed boarding pass(es) to the airport. Each boarding pass must be printed on a separate page.
Online check-in is available from 15 days up to 4 hours prior to scheduled flight departure. Once you have completed the online check-in process your boarding pass can be reprinted up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure. If you do not check-in online, you will be required to pay the relevant penalty to re-issue your boarding card at the airport (Euro 40/ GBP 40). This facility is only available up to 40 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure. Please call our Reservations Centre to correct or amend any photo ID details that have been incorrectly entered or reissued.
now i don't need to check in online and don't wish to, departure isn't really a problem as i will have my computer and printer, but as i am going for 3 weeks my return is, you can only do it from 15 days to 4 hrs prior to departure.
so basically, during my holiday i will have to find an internet cafe somewhere, where i can also print the boarding passes, an inconvenience to me which i have to pay for as well. if you dont manage to do it then you have to pay £40 for each boarding pass to be reissued. so, they charge you £40 for a boarding pass or if you do it yourself they charge you £5.

even with the prices of the web-checkin it still works out cheap for 5 people, but as i say, the fact that i will lose holiday time having to go out and find somewhere to issue me a boarding pass is something i can do without, all because of the 15 day limit on checking in.

sooner or later, these guys are gonna come unstuck, the 'hidden' charges have to be out in the open now (they still got the mnoney either way) but it seems that they are intent on adding more things to the price every single time you book with them, eventually the price isn't going to be any cheaper and people will stop using them. i am now looking for a different airline where i can check in the old fashioned way, and they wont charge me
£120 for 4 bags
£50 for web check in
£50 for the card i use

i may not find one but i will do my best as i cba trying to sort out boarding passes in the middle of my tanning regime, i tan to a strict schedule and i just cant factor that in.

i also cant find an email address for them to query it, only a 95pence per minute phone line, which they will no doubt email me with something amd i will have to call, last year £15 call to be told "everything is fine, you don't need to do anything"

I think you can check in online for the return flight, I dont think you need to do it on seperate occasions.

if it's a fortnight you are going for then yes, but it's more than 15 days and there is no way of finding out.
i've put up with the hidden charges and the scrum at the gate, i've been trying to get a card where i don't have to pay, but this at the moment is a straw too many

Pal. You know what the alternative is, buying package or using a charter airline for your flights.

The budget airlines have moved aggressively in the market to oust the charter and schedule airlines from a lost of short haul destinations, now they have the grip they can muck about with extra prices. It will continue too.

Spain is now suffering tourism wise because of this, Portugal & Greece will follow shortly. Everywhere non euro zone is gaining popularity not just only because of the savings in resort but the likes of Turkey and Egypt are just a little too far for the budget airlines to fly in and out in the allotted time they like.

Could be worse, you could travel by Indonesian ferry.

Ryanair is [Poor language removed]! Went with them once, never again. Complete con and rip off. [Poor language removed] service, crap planes. Absolutely no redeeming qualities to the airline. I've been on easyjet flights many times, with no probs. Ryanair are not fit to lick the underside of their boots.

it depends where you want to go to though, i can go to gerona and have a 20 min transfer or barca with easyjet and a couple of hours transfer. i've put up with the service etc as the way i see it is if you want first class treatment then book a 1st class ticket with b.a. and pay about a grand each, the moaning i've heard from passengers that are getting a flight to spain for £30 is unbelievable, i fly with them based on price and don't expect club class.
when i am expected to do something myself, inconvenience myself and pay them for the service that they aren't providing then i see it as a time to look elsewhere.
the card fee and the web check-in add £100 to the cost, the bags £120, they'll be chargin a supplement based on the weather during the flight next. headwind £45, tailwind £45, no wind £45, all charged to the card you book with and a card fee as well.

i reckon if there's a flight thats £100 more expensive then i'll take that option.

If you're paying for a no frills flight then expect it as you say.

Nothing wrong with that either, more money for the potentially fantastic foreign beer.

i bet the school ( or wigan mbc) will fine me as well, they said they would last year but didn't. i applied for the kids time off on the basis of my daughters allergies and my 'arls takin' a ruck of food over for us, so we can only go when they do.
they turned it down and seem to have all the solutions to the problems we face, yet she cant go on a school trip unless one of us goes along.
there is a cat going to be thrown right amongst the shoitehawks soon, as there is a skiing holiday, i am going to tell them that she wants to go and i expect them to work out the logistics of feeding her before i part with any cash, i could be asked to go along on a freebie as a 'helper'.

or they will refuse to allow her to go, which will play right into my hands.

It's mad that ruling. Plays into the hands of all holiday related companies that.

the annoying thing is it's up to the individual authorities whether they approve or not. when they turn it down and you call them to appeal, you get some spiel about 'we are not allowed by law to authorise time off for a holiday' yet other authorities do, i do live in the borough of one of the greediest councils in the land though, the poll tax the first time was about £600 and along with lambeth they were told to reduce it, they did and then the gov capped it cos they hadn't dropped it enough, it was still over £500 which was about 3 weeks take home pay at the time.
greedy pie eating feckers they are.

Bad greedy wools them lar.

It's your kids and you responsibility, if you are cool with them missing valuable school time to save a few quid and put them on a path to unemployment when they're older then that's your right mate.

it's that or not have a holiday basically. if everyone stopped takin' them out then the holiday industry would be right up the creek. apart from that there wouldnt be enough places for everyone during school holiday time.

Not true mate. No-one hardly takes school age children on holiday out of term time anymore fella.

maybe not to mehiko, but to spain and the like they do, tons of em , the fine is £50 per child so a lot book and are willing to pay the fine as they are saving way more than that.

they'll only miss sats anyway, sats that i don't wish them to participate in, if they want to assess the school, do so in a way that doesn't put stress onto a 6 y.o.
