Gonna be controversial and say he was over-rated. van Basten was the main man in that Milan team, with both Baresi and Maldini bigger players too.

Of midfielders of that era, Matthaus was a better player imo, and I'd even argue people like Hagi too.

The story OI remember back then was that we went to watch Haarlem to see Gullit, came back saying he wouldnt suit this league but signed Raymondo who had been given a straight red for throwing the nut on someone. (he may have been playing for opposition ?)
