I'm opposed to poor taste, not freedom of expression. Apparently you cannot or will not distinguish between the two. I'm guessing you believe that burning the USA flag is generally accepted by the American public as "freedom of expression" then?

Please don't make the amateur mistake of confusing the two.

This is my point. Freedom of expression is an enlightened attitude that stands outside of popular prejudices. It's a rational way of operating. 9/11 is a huge deal, and maybe Americans 'generally' dont want this to happen, but you cant pick and choose which instances you allow freedom of expression to prevail under. As for building a Mosque being in 'poor taste', I go back to my original point: Muslims already worship on the site - ergo it's a place of worship right now. That's been going on for a while with no fuss. So it's just a matter of a new build that's the issue. I dont see where poor taste comes into it. In reality if the the rent a mob hadn't kicked up a shitstorm over this proposal all would have been as before. No doubt that's why the institutional rationale, presently, is to go along with this scheme.

Enlightened thinking should win out over the demands of emotional people who may or may not reflect majority thinking on the subject. This is the way we've moved forward over time.

That's liberal speak if I ever heard it (i.e. the "enlightened thinking" of the minority should win out over the "thinking" of the majority.) Gee. Thank goodness that we have those who are enlightened in their thought process to put the rest of us in our place. It's that type of "thinking" that's lead to several issues in our country and how our current elitist president is operating but I digress.
