Been watching Wakefield v Saints on the telly tonight. I think Saints and Leeds look a notch above the rest right now. Although I cannot write Warrington off.
I am a massive Salford fan. Are any of you into the game ?.

Going to get a pasting for this, but League is too repetitive for me, much prefer Union, even though they have rules about the rules. League players are undoubtedly fitter, bigger and seem to pass / handle better, but I think theres more tactical play in union which I like.

Ps - I go an watch Sale now and again, would go much more if the parking wasn't such a problem.

Yeah the scrums mean something. I do not like how players from Super League move to the NRL or even worse switch to Union. Of course that is all about the money. In the North-west we lack a good union team anyway. We only have Sale who play at my League teams stadium. I do not like them btw. Union is ok.

League is the more enjoyable spectacle live, but union is a better game overall. At first I never understood all the lying around but now I roughly know what's going on, there's a lot more to union.

Union is terrible live though. Unless you're in the gods, you have no idea what is going on in the rucks and mauls.

I agree, but League players all seem to have become the same shape - at least 6ft tall, 17 / 18 stone and muscled to death. You can't tell a winger from a centre. At least with Union you can still look at a little fat fella and know he's the prop !

When Union is played well and is a fast, flowing game, it's a superb spectacle. Too often however, it seems to get bogged down in rucks that barely get over the gain line, scrums whose sole purpose seems to be to win a penalty (whilst sucking up huge amounts of time), and kick tennis from full back to full back.

Of course, League can also be a dull watch, but I think you tend to get more exciting plays to generate try scoring opportunities, which is what rugby should be all about, in League than Union.

I read recently for instance, how Burgess had been rollicked at Bath for going looking for something to do as he was bored in his centre position by the lack of activity. He's a guy who would make 30+ tackles a match and probably 20 carries of the ball in League, and he does a fraction of that in Union. And that's in a Bath team that are pretty fluid, with a fine back line and a fly-half that tries to play them in rather than kick all the time.

Anyway, with regards to Super League, the recent World Club thing reinforced how far behind the NRL we are. Souths look an incredibly good team, even without Sam. I can't think of a better spectacle in either code than Greg Inglis in full flow. Phenomenal player.

Wigan have started the season poorly, and look creatively off the pace right now, with Williams settling in and Smith and the full back struggling for form. I'm sure they, together with Leeds, Saints and Warrington will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. Saints are probably favourites at the moment, but very early days.

Rugby union, pass the ball, kick for the line, pass the ball, kick for the line, pass the ball, kick for the line............................................

You could say the same with League about - leg it slam, leg it slam, leg it slam, leg it slam, leg it slam, turn the ball over.
Depends on the team, some in both codes are much better to watch due to the higher quality of the players and coaching.

Just think rugby league is more exciting, maybe it's more because I'm a Northerner. Funny thing is, I like watching New Zealand, South Africa and the Aussies in Union, but England bore me to death.

I like both codes, but I prefer Union over League. There's definitely a class divide with League and Union still.
Areas like St Helens, Warrington, Leigh, Wigan etc do have Union teams, but they tend to be the poor relation of the League teams. I think a lot of its to do with father and son thing more than money.

I moved away from Liverpool a fair few years ago and now live in the South East, mentioning rugby league down here is Blasphemous!

That's not really the case with league. Sure, there might be 2 or 3 tackles in a row where they just charge at the opp, but generally there's a lot more passing.

There's too much to be gained from the kicking game in RU, hence the over-reliance on it.
