EU rules against restriction of trade. The RLU should be ashamed for not providing support and a way to some means for a man clearly down and out. All they did was take their turn to kick him again. I'm not onside with drug cheats but for a situation to get this far is absurd. A very bad attitude exists in professional sport where offenders are never given a chance to redeem themselves, unlike the murderers and rapists in society. His family must be distrought, I hope he had no children that would have to grow up under this spectre.

I know people who have attempted it numerous times and I've been with the people who have had to suffer, so switch flicked or not, there is always help available.

Help is not always there mate, sometimes loved ones have no idea that something is a miss.. I personally have been directly effected by this when my pops decided to leave this world.. I can understand how some people would call it selfish though.

It's a very tragic event, and I have nothing but sympathy for his family

I just want to pick up on the 'drug cheat's comment. I'm not trying to assassinate your post, mostly trying to make you aware. There are very few 'drug free' athletes in Rugby and it's probably worse in Athletics. If you think they are clean, you are very naive. GH is rife in rugby, mainly because it's near impossible to catch someone on it, i'm not actually sure how he got caught. Steroids, and performance enhancing drugs, are rife in sports.

If you're not onside with drug cheats, don't watch sports. Even PL footballers take GH to speed up the recovery process after injury. This tends to be one of the main reasons they get surgery and treatment abroad.

I used to be very anti drugs in sports, now I have a very neutral stance. PM me and I'll send you a download link to quite a good documentary.

Well I'm sorry he felt he had to end his life, but I will always feel more sympathy for the one's they leave behind.

It is sadly common though. My cycling hero growing up was Marco Pantani, a man who also spiraled into depression after doping issues. He ended up killing himself as well.

Whilst not to such an extent there are also many examples of athletes struggling to adapt to life when the rush of training and competing are taken away.

If nothing else hopefully this will provide clubs, and indeed athletes themselves, with another big prod down the path of educating themselves during their careers so that they both appreciate that there is a life outside of the sporting bubble they find themselves in, and provides them with a purpose in life after their sporting career ends.

Sadly I think you're spot on. Cycling attempts to push it all out into the open and its reputation has suffered as a result, but I simply don't believe that cyclists are immoral, or at least more so than athletes in other sports, and there are clear advantages to becoming stronger, faster, better at recovering in pretty much every sport.

I don't doubt that nutrition and sports science has made athletes across the board fitter than ever before but I'm also fairly confident that more dubious measures are also rife, and often brushed under the carpet or given lip service. I mean Andrew Johns revealed recently that he took drugs throughout his career, yet I don't think he ever failed a test. You can say what you like about cycling but the testing regimes in place in other sports are very weak indeed.

I suspect he knew that, and him being made an example of when he had most probably juiced with other pro's just added to the contempt and bitterness he felt that must have been an element of what drew him towards his tragic end. RLU should be ashamed.

Being caught for GH sounds like a bit of a stitch up to be honest. It's nearly impossible to catch someone on GH, and when they are caught the results wont stand up in court.

I suspect there is a bit more to this going on behind the scenes

Regardless, a man has lost his life and that is always tragic and sad in my book.
