Roy Keane hotel 'incident': Irish FA backs assistant manager

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane has the "full support" of the Football Association of Ireland after "inaccurate" reports of an incident at the team hotel near Dublin.
Police were called to the Portmarnock Hotel following an incident with a member of the public.
"We wish to clarify that Roy Keane called the Gardai following the incident," read an FAI statement.
The Republic face Scotland on Friday in a Euro 2016 qualifier at Celtic Park.
The FAI statement added: "The manager, Martin O'Neill, and the FAI are fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this event, and the assistant manager has their full support."
Former Manchester United midfielder Keane, 43, won 67 Republic of Ireland caps between 1991 and 2005.
In November 2013, the ex-Sunderland and Ipswich manager was appointed assistant boss to O'Neill, a role he combines with the same job at Aston Villa.

I was following this "story" last night when some of the media were slanting it as Keane decking some fan who asked him to sign his book, and then the Gardaí being called and an ambulance being required for the fan.

I decided not to post here because I wanted to await official story.

Seems now that it was Keane who called the Gardaí, and FAI fully supporting him, but still await fuller details.

"Following inaccurate media reports which refer to an incident involving a member of the public this evening at the Republic of Ireland team hotel, we wish to clarify that Roy Keane called the Gardai following the incident.
"The manager, Martin O'Neill and the FAI are fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this event, and the assistant manager has their full support."

Overall I can see this leading to FAI clamping down on the traditional easy access that fans have to team hotels at home and abroad.

Mind you it also diverts some attention from the boo-campaign against McCarthy and Mcgeady!!
