Not too sure. It's not an interception. More like obstruction kind of thing I think.

When the receiving player is illegally obstructed for a pass - usually by a player tackling too early or dragging an arm/limb back so that the receiving player cannot catch. Pass interference can be called for the offense or defense depending on who the pass is heading towards and who looks like catching the ball. It gives the offensive team that received the penalty an automatic first down.

Getting to the bottom of this at last. Sounds like plain old-fashioned obstruction. Don't think it's very offensive though...
