I met Allen Ginsberg a couple of times. He talked very passionately about McGough almost in the same way he spoke about Corso/Kerouac and Dylan. Im doing a book about Dylan and need to speak to Roger about the night the Liverpool Poets took Dylan to The Blue Angel in May 65. In his book (Roger) says he cant remember anything about the night

Me maa n daa used to hang round with him when they were teenagers. Said he's an arite fella.

That was the day the nab was fab, the day we danced at the dole, has stuck in my mind since 1969.

Because I've got a 4byear old I have to do a lot of reading, I encourage that to my lad, and am happy he likes good tales so much, one of the most popular children's writers is julia donaldson, famous for the gruffalo, if you read more of her stuff it is very similar to the children's stuff mcgough did. Good to see a thread about an underated writer.

Magicjuan, that's great to hear

My mum read to me as soon as the umbilical cord was cut and it worked wonders, at the age of 3 I was storming my way through Roger Red Hat and Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch (a staple of 90s kids).... when I started school, there were some kids of 5 who were still on individual letters. He'll develop fine taste in the years to come!

Shamefully I've never heard of him, but did enjoy that poem and researching him. So thanks for sharing.

Anyone know if Toeknee Chestnut is still parading around Lark Lane writing prose for booze?
