Manchester United have been quoted a staggering £30million if they want to lure Everton starlet Jack Rodwell to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-term admirer of the Everton centre-back and is planning to establish an English core to his United defence for years to come.

He has already signed Fulham’s Chris Smalling - now the United manager wants to finish his rebuilding by signing Rodwell, 18.

Everton are reluctant to sell but the Toffees have a good relationship with United.

David Moyes was furious with the way Manchester City conducted themselves in their pursuit of Joleon Lescott, though he eventually sold the England defender for £24m.

A Goodison insider said: “Jack is one of the brightest talents here but, although David Moyes wants to keep him, everyone has a price.

“It will take big money to sign him and United are interested. He [Alex Ferguson] has a good relationship with the Everton manager, unlike what happened in the summer with City.”

Why so called pundits are saying he's still a centre half having only played 1 game there in the prem is a bit silly

I may go to Old Trafford, bend over and let them give me some of the good old corporate-cantona shafting.

In fact **** it, I'm going to go and buy a United shirt and queue up with all the Koreans and Japanese at the club shop.

I cant see them wanting him as a centre half especially when he's not played there in the prem or Europe.

He's a defensive midfilder....and they have Carrick and Fletcher for that so £30mill is too much for a 3rd choice players.

They bought Smalling for an over inflated price. But if they want to rebuild their defence again being that Ferdinand is a crocked and Vidic is meant to be on his way....Johnny Evans, Chris Smalling and or Jack Rodwell isnt going to make that defence water tight and would get ripped open.

I dont think there's too much into this. United will need to buy an experienced and solid centre half IMO

We may have to if we want anything resembling a transfer budget in the summer. 30 million is alot of money though, I've got to say. It'd be disappointing, considering the potential of the lad, but that's the way we have to do things.

Why do we need to buy any players though?

one thing the sh*t sheet media love to do is try to wind up evertonians - `a racist club, bitter blues` etc. nice timing with rodwell just back to the forefront of our thoughts as fellainis out- their source is always `an insider`= utter crap.
