Alex Honnold climbs El Sendero luminoso in Mexico.

Without ropes .

How crazy or how cool can one man be.

Unreal.

Oh Christ.
I once fell about 20 feet, with ropes and pretty much cacked myself.

It probably wasn't 20 feet, but it certainly felt like a long way.

Seen a decent documentary about the history of rock climbing in Yosemite and how it has progressed since the 50's the other week. Good stuff Valley Uprising it was called, better than it sounds ha. Think that kid is in it towards the end as he's now the main man. Interests me as I crap myself at the mere thought of heights.

I've always wanted to give it a go but I know my arse would go and I would freeze.

These people though must be missing the fear gene or something how on earth can you do that and not cack yourself.

Liked for mentioning the best place on the planet.

The part that gets me at the end were he turns to the camera and smiles . Your on the side of a mountain holding on with bear hands and a long way to fall m and you find the time for a Kodak moment . Loonatic lol

My kids have started doing bouldering, i've been to watch but unfortunately have two natural barriers to taking part! My boy has really taken to it to be fair

Search me. Quite a few climbers are scared of heights too.

There's a huge gap between walkers who do a bit of scrambling or easy grade climbs and proper climbers.

I did a bit with some mates some years ago and you're right, proper climbers have a different way of dealing with fear.

For must people, it'd result in an adrenaline rush which gets you over the first few hurdles, but you can't keep on doing that. It's hard to explain, but they seem to replace that fear with something else which pushes fear and similar emotions way to the back of their brain. I think @mrs the esk is a climber and might be able to explain it ?

Free climbers are a breed apart though. I've got huge admiration for all climbers, but free climbers are just amazing.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there - adrenaline.

Same with all extreme sports - base jumping, free climbing, cliff diving, cross country skiing, pot holing, etc. It's about chasing the adrenaline .

Not sure mate. The climbers I've known over the years ( which isn't that many to be fair ) have ( mostly ) been icy calm when they're on the crags. If it's adrenaline fuelled then it's channelled in a very different way than it is for normal folk.
