EDM is the worst newish genre of the past decade or two.

in terms of the cultural shift, EDM is just part of rave. Not fresh from a gamechanging perspective.

Nah, James Holden is great.

EDM is more the newer stuff which is around at the moment, such as Guetta, Deadmau5, Avicii, Steve Aoki, Swedish House Mafia - just awful predicable rubbis, 135bpm crap. Everything about it is awful, the music, the scene, the DJ's and the crowds.

To HELL with mainstream corporate music. Some great stuff out there. Support your local bands for a start. Bypass the machine. Stop attending mainstream concerts and buying mainstream cds. Buy direct from the artist. Problem solved.

I'm liking a lot of shoegaze/ethereal/dream pop/electronica at the moment, maybe now I've hit 25 I've become chilled out, when I was a tad younger I was the same 'blah pop dance music is ****e' but I've grown to not minding it now.
