Roberto Mancini has parted company with Galatasaray by mutual agreement.

The Turkish side finished runners-up in the Super Lig to Fenerbahce and won the Turkish Cup in the Italian’s first year but there has been constant speculation that he was looking to leave Istanbul.

Mancini, who had two years remaining on his contract, has been strongly linked with a return to Serie A and his former club Lazio where the coach Edy Reja could only lead them to a disappointing eighth in the league.

As well as managing Lazio, Mancini spent four years with Internazionale from 2004, winning three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italias.

He was sacked by Manchester City last summer despite leading the club to their first league title in 44 years in 2012 and the FA Cup in 2011.

They lost a cup final to wigan, did nothing at all in europe and let the worst man u team in the last 20 years run away with the title.

Given he had an unlimited budget it's not the most impressive job in the world. Pelegrini has done more there this season than Mancini did in 4.

And his successes at inter have the worlds biggest asterix over them.

Not a terrible manager obviously but the consistent failures in Europe with title winning domestic teams marks him as a step down from the elite.

Plus Galatasaray should win that league every year with their team.

I get what you're saying here - but to be fair, Pellegrini lost a cup quarter final to Wigan this year.
