Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian
The Unobstructed View
As we're all aware it costs you a mint to use your phone abroad, roaming charges have just been lowered by a fair bit but there are other options
Buying a Sim when you get there.
I bought a vodafone sim in italy so that I could use the data, which still worked out a touch pricey but nowhere near like if I'd used my UK one.

I just got one of these today, in fact I got 3 of them from co-op travel, they're supposed to give them away when you book a holiday but I went in to get some Euro's and asked if I could buy a couple, she said I could have them as they have been forgetting to hand them out, so gave me an extra one. Supposed to be £7.50 with £2.50 loaded on.
You register it and then register the country that you are travelling to, when you get there it assigns you a local number as well that last for a month, you can have 7 country numbers.
Folk here can call the uk number so they aren't making an international call and you don't pay anything to receive calls.
Calls that you make are 3p/minute to home or local, so will put 1 in the kids phones so that they'll also be local. Texts are 7p, free to receive, data is 15 per mb.
You can get a uk data bundle but that cant be used abroad.
We'll all turn data off like as android can eat a fair bit, just use when required to check e-mails.
Seems a decent deal tbh and as it'll only be to call home a couple of times, text and tell the kids their fish fingers are ready I doubt we'll need to top-up, so in effect FREE.

No unwanted hefty bills when we get back.
Sites wifi will do for any web browsing.
