Player Valuation: £500k
Saw this on another forum and thought it might be of interest to people to do one on here.
I'll update the OP as of when players leave/sign.
Glen Johnson
José Enrique
Daniel Agger
Luis Suárez
Steven Gerrard (captain)
Philippe Coutinho
Jordan Henderson
Daniel Sturridge
Sebastián Coates
Stewart Downing
Lucas Leiva
Joe Allen
Pepe Reina
Fabio Borini
Suso
Raheem Sterling
Martin Škrtel
Luis Alberto
Iago Aspas
Simon Mignolet
That's the basis of the players most likely to be in and around the first xi next year.
For me Rodgers has been very smart in the transfer window and has been reversing the terrible mistakes that were previously made. Getting rid of Carroll for the fee touted was well played, and getting Mignolet, Coutinho, Sturridge etc, for the prices touted has been smart business.
With Mignolet they have one of the best goalkeepers in the league that was a huge difference in Sunderland fighting off relegation last season.
Defence wise they will need to add a player depending if someone leaves, but they were fairly wise in getting Toure as cover and an experienced head with Carragher gone. Papadopolous would be an outstanding coup if they pulled it off, as he is potentially one of the best CBs in Europe.
Midfield wise they look fairly promising. Coutinho is technically a quality player which is exactly what Rodgers likes, but i think they may need to sign another CM as Henderson/Allen aren't good enough for a top 4 side unless they're a squad member and Lucas doesn't really look the player who was very good in THAT one season. Suso did look quality when playing for Spain though.
Striker wise...you have to ponder that Suarez looks likely to leave, especially considering the signings of Aspas and Alberto. Sturridge last season in games looked great at times and other times looked his selfish awful self again. He's too hit and miss currently and will need to wise up as he has the potential. Don't know much about Aspas but Alberto was very good for Barca B and the only reason they didn't take up the offer is that they weren't willing to pay so much, there was no doubt in his ability.
All in all, i think this may be the season they overtake us. I don't think they have enough yet to push on and become a top 4 side, but i do think that they'll snatch 6th and possibly push for 5th place if they make a few more signings. Potentially they look like they could be a strong team.
