No doubt that Sean Connery was the best 'screen' Bond but reading the books, the image that came to mind was Roger Moore.

I always took him as a mixture of Connery in appearance and Dalton in attitude: he's definitely crotchety in the books.

It's true. The literary Bond came through more as a smoothie rather than a craggy Scot. Sean was more of a hard man when it mattered on screen though.

All the other Bonds you can forget quite honestly. One-dimensional figures.
