What a marvellous era that was for boxing. The sport rivalled football for fascination, probably because it was televised regularly on BBC and ITV and the commentators were excellent - Carpenter and Gutteridge on TV and Lynam on radio.

Really ?? The great heavyweight clashes of the 70's were a little bit before my time, but I've heard plenty of stories of people getting drunk and going down to the "picture houses" (cinemas) to watch big fights as they happened because it was the one place you could see them live as they were broadcast on radio but not T.V. in this country.
