Rio Ferdinand

I never really rated him that highly as a defender, made a living as a "ball playing" centre back as those types were few and far between, got away with it at Man U as he was not often "under the cosh" IMHO,made many errors in games that others mopped up for him,Neville,Irwin,Schmeichel etc,l would have liked to have seen him playing for a Crystal Palace/Burnley/Bolton/Birmingham type club because I honestly think he would have got ragged.

eh lad, the latter two on your list had left before Ferdinand even joined United, I'm also not entirely sure what your point is here. Ferdinand and Vidic, along with Terry and Carvalho, was the best defensive partnership that the Premier League had when it was enjoying its golden period. The partnerships complemented each other so well. Terry and Vidic were considered the brutes, Carvalho and Ferdinand the ball-players. Although of the four I'd elevate Carvalho above the others as he was also capable of being a brute, but that's just my personal preference.
