I only heard this quickly on the radio but apparently his parents never gave official permission for the image to be used.

That kid has been on a few documentaries/shows over the years. It was his parents that put him up originally (one of them had something to do with the photographer i think) but for whatever reason despite how famous/iconic the album cover is, the kid involved has always had a major, major issue with it and I have no idea why, I even remember off the back of it on one thing he had a go at Cobain after his suicide and was calling him a loser and all sorts. He really does'nt like the fact he is on that cover.
