“Hibbo also did a great job when he went to centre-half for a couple of games. Not because he is tall, but because he is a good all-round defender who knew the fundamentals of tackling and smelling danger and being in the right position....Tony has actually developed as a player going forward".

I agree with Moyes on those points. If he had been a few inches taller, though, he'd have been used a lot more times as a CB, and his crossing has improved from its previous direness. Overall, though, Moyes is having to make a silk purse out of a sows ear here. He's putting a positive spin on a position we defo do need strengthening. To suggest it's a position boxed off at Everton just underlines what poor shape we're in.

He is a superb tackler and faced one on one with an attacker i'd back Hibbo most times.

And full credit to him for improving his attacking game recently.

But his positioning and proneness to switching off and letting wingers into space behind him is a constant problem and has always been his main weakness.

He is also very slow in closing down people attempting to cross but so is Baines so i guess thats a coaching thing.

United's goal last week being a good example.

I dont like the feller, but I still think Neville is the best RB at the club. He's far from ideal, but he's solid enough in defence and gives a little bit more than Hibbert getting forward; Coleman needs a spell in there in pre-season to prove he can do the tracking back and has sufficient positional sense for the position.

We need to buy, imo.

Nevilles legs have gone so Hibbert is the best RB we've got at the moment.

BUT...Pre-season should throw Coleman there and let him learn the craft. Problem being, Moyes is defence first, attack second, so if Coleman isnt up to scratch defensively - he's not gonna play.

Moyes should look at what Fergie did with the De Silva brothers. Both defensive liabilities, but thrown in the deep end and told to learn in the league/cups/and Europe - they're now solid full backs.
