Interesting to see there was a very small protest at Walton Hall Park this afternoon against any plans which may include a new stadium for Everton.

One of the more vocal was a chap called Richard Kemp, who it turns out is the Lib Dem leader in the city and going to put himself forward for Mayor.

He claims should he become Mayor that “I have pledged that if I am elected as mayor on May 5, I will remove the threat of development of the park on May 6."

Doing a bit of research on his twitter, there are a number of pro LFC tweets, and some anti EFC tweets.

I would question his motives and why he would be against a scheme that would provide 1,000 new homes for the area.

I'm sure being a bitter Kopite would have nothing at all to do with his decision making though

Good on him. That's public parkland, and should remain as such.

He won't get voted in anyway

I'm questioning whether or not he would campaign against it if LFC were involved. We'll never know of course

He quite probably would, and I'd still urge people not to vote for him/ develop parkland.

He's not gonna endear hisself to Evertonian electorate with his anti-Everton tweets; so there's over half of the city not gonna vote for him. ;)

He moans a lot. From 2011.

Liberal Democrat council leader Richard Kemp complains 'being a councillor has cost me a fortune'

Richard Kemp, the vice chairman of the Local Government Association, also said that he has had to live on “peanuts” for his first two decades as a councillor.

Mr Kemp and his wife, a fellow councillor, estimated to earn £50,000 a year in salary and allowances.

In his blog reflecting on his 28 years as a councillor in Liverpool, Mr Kemp complained about “the pay and rations thing” and said that “being a councillor has cost me a fortune.

“For the first 20 years of my time as a councillor we got absolute peanuts. We were expected to spend day after day at the coal face of council work for very little. My family has suffered because I have been a councillor.”

In the blog, headlined “So you want to be a councillor do you!”, Mr Kemp complained of “lardarses who do nothing for anyone mouthing off about the iniquities of councillors”.

He said: “These people wouldn’t do a hands turn for anyone; have no idea what it is like to give up evening after evening and weekend after weekend for the good of others.”

Mr Kemp told The Daily Telegraph that he and his wife earn around £50,000 a year in public money, from council allowances and Mr Kemp's salary from the LGA.

He said: "We need to start a proper debate. If you want more people to volunteer you have to cut down on the work. I am not calling for more moeny but for a greater understand of what we actually do."

At the weekend Mr Kemp was also facing questions over whether he had been claiming a second home allowance for nights spent at his flat in London.

Mr Kemp bought the property for £142,500 in south London in November 2005 and was listed on the electoral roll there from 2006 until 2010.

LGA rules state that such “exceptional” allowances can only be paid after negotiating reduced rates at approved hotels.

They also state that the LGA “does not contribute to the cost of second homes for councillors,” but Mr Kemp has been allowed him to circumvent that policy.

Mr Kemp admitted that he received expenses for nights spent away from his time but declined to say whether he claimed for nights at his flat.

Jo Miller, deputy chief executive of the LGA, said Mr Kemp had a deal “he received a nightly rate while on official duty which is less than the cost of a hotel. This offers better value and has been kept on for his final year in office.”

He should be happy with that level of pay! Did he have to take out a student loan to do so? Most would kill for a family income of 50k and be able to buy a second home
