NI politicians are an interesting bunch. You also broke our no government record recently (doesn't count though since NI isn't a sovereign state). Any negative effects? Over here it didn't make a difference, plenty of other governments.
Negative effects are limited as only certain powers have been devolved from London to Belfast.

Recently a court decided that the Civil Service are unable to make ministerial decisions in the absence of a sitting government and that has immediately impacted a few planned schemes.

At this point in time, there is also very little chance of Sinn Fein going back into government unless the DUP move on issues such as gay marriage, abortion and an Irish Language Act.

The DUP really are a vile bunch. There's a few super injunctions stopping stories getting out, mainly about the 'sexual misdemeanours'. Corruption over the nama deal, RHI, even paisley jnr and his Sri Lankan holidays. They'll still top the votes next time round though..... And the next ....And the next....

In any other part of the UK the DUP would be out on their ear a long time ago. Unfortunately the tribal nature of our politics means they will be re elected next time around. It's a sad reflection on us.

Their days of topping polls are numbered due to changing demographics.

But your point is nailed on. Tribal voting will ignore real politics and that really doesn’t portray us in a good light.
