I was too young in 1970 to remember much about it now, but based on what we have seen so far the football in this WC and particularly the second half of Germany/Ghana we are witnessing a football treat.

What is it about Central and South America? 1970, 1978, 1986 and 2014, all great tournaments!

To be more serious, this has been the most open group stages for beards and the whole thing has been helped by the fact that there were no expectations on England so we didn't get stressed about that. I'm loving this tournament so far.

Given I suspect you are a @Bungle multi I am not clicking that link...

Harsh that. @Bungle is MY multi, I'm the senior member here (y)

I agree this is the best World Cup that I have seen, every team is just having a go. I also think that the refs have been brilliant and have let a lot go and not showing yellow cards all over the place, like old school football. Yes there have been a couple of mistakes but I'll take that if this is what we are watching every day. The first World Cup I remember was 1970 and have enjoyed most if not all of them since but this one beats them all so far.

group stages have been superb so far, loads of goals, loads of good attacking football, loads of surprises (Spain, England out already, Italy or Uruguay going out, maybe Portugal too)....another cracking game tonight, another piece of Messi magic earlier....have really enjoyed Columbia, Chile, Germany, Holland, France.....
Van persie's goal, Cahill's goal....

all that and brazil & Argentina have yet to really start playing yet....

2010 was the worst world cup I've seen (1986 was the first world cup i was old enough to watch and enjoy).....this def has the potential to be the best...

It's been a fantastic tournament so far - much better than I expected. Hope it continues in the knock out stages. I remember 2006 in Germany - the group stages were really good, but the football got more defensive once it got into sudden death games. Much, much better than 2010, though.

Tournaments are remembered for the business end matches though, it's been terrific so far but nobody will give a balls if the final is shyte.

This is, easily, the best of the two I can remember clearly. For some reason, at the age of 5, 2002 seemed boss. I can only really remember the final and Joe Cole's goal against Sweden from 2006. 2010 was a bit [Poor language removed] really; my overriding memory being obviously England v Germany, and also the worst game I've ever seen - think it was Slovenia/Slovakia v Algeria in the group stages (know idea why I can still remember this). Geo van Bronckhourst's semi-final goal made up for this a little. But then, the final was a bit crap too.

So this is easily the best World Cup I can remember, already.
