I think you hit the real point in your last couple of sentences. It would be foolish to determine future transfer targets by how other players from that league have done. We just have to trust the managers judgement. Even though we just had a bad experience with the last one.

I think by in large we recruited well under Martinez. When you consider what we paid for them, Deulofeu, Robles, Barry, McCarthy, Besic & Lukaku have all done well. Kone has been poor (though I think unlucky with the injury) while Niasse looks an awful buy.

The problem for Martinez has been how he used the players as opposed to recruitment. We generally buy well.

I honestly think the jury is still out on McCarthy. One good season and two bad seasons. So his big buys (except Lukaku) are questionable. Plus the fact that McGeady is still on the wage bill irks me.
