Replacing your treasured vinyl

The artists I still listen to repeatedly are the ones I grew up with. Radiohead, Pulp, Arcade Fire etc. I give new artists plenty of time, but rarely do I follow them avidly. I find myself spending evenings sampling the best new music on Pitchfork but rarely then go on to explore those artists further.

Since I turned 30 I've found myself becoming more retrospective, going back and listening to music from before I was born, Jazz, Classical, Blues etc, again probably due to being out-of-touch with modern sounds.
Oh yeah, I love the 60's and 70's stuff to, must be rock mainly though.. Love the Doors and a few others.

Some 50's rock and roll is good too!!

I couldn't tell you the first thing about Jazz until I met the missus when I was 22. Been a bit of a voyage of discovery since then, and I absolutely love it now. Also big into Robert Johnson, Django Rheinhart, all that kind of stuff.

Next step is to explore the 50s rock and roll, Chuck Berry etc. My knowledge is pretty much limited to Johnny B Goode and I need to expand on that!

Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Bo Diddly, Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson... Just loads from the 50's..

I only know these through my dads music...

Another legend.. Not strictly rock and roll buy hey ho! Some classics!

According to the Pitchfork article I linked above, there's an argument to suggest that headphones plugged into an iPod playing a 320kb mp3 track (so one connection between source and output) should sound better than a vinyl, which passes through various devices and cables to reach the user, thus providing more opportunity for loss of clarity.

It's an interesting topic, for sure.

It's the lack of clarity that defines analogue. It seems my ears prefer it.
