Player Valuation: £225k
Rent or buy in this market?

There has been a bit of talk on the transfer window and that fact that the quality players bought in are mainly loans.

For me, I choose to dream and if that dream is a rented dream so be it. The fact is I haven't been this excited in a long time after a window.

Get your pens ready home clubs, i suspect we will need some extentions, as we get into Europe :)

Note: Lukaku number 17 - big blue aussie shoes to fill.

COYBs!

Makes less difference with each passing season.

If a player signed for us, and was immediately really, really good playing for us, we're at a financial level where a richer club could come in and buy him. Wouldn't matter if he'd signed a 3,4, or 5 year contract. Baines is the exception, but even that was only really because United never offered what he was truly worth.

So basically, for us, buying a player compared to renting/loaning a player, the difference is miniscule. Loaning a player - he's definitely going back. If he's rubbish - great. If he's excellent - unlucky on us. Buying a player - if he's rubbish, we're stuck with him. If he's great, well, richer clubs will be interested in him.

Er, yeh but, if we own him then we get the many-millions such clubs would b willing to pay for his services.

If he is a loanee, we get nowt.

The loan market is an excellent resource if used well. I'm sticking my neck out and saying I think Martinez has done well - Deolofeu already looks good and has scored.

100% agree with this,

Football is a business, and the loan market is part of this business. Everton on the whole have played this market very well over the years.

Arteta first came on loan, as did Pienaar (twice, and remains the only player to sign for a club four times). It's just the footballing equivalent of 'try before you buy pick and mix'.

Little known fact - Andy Gray signed on loan for one day, while he sorted his permanent contract out. It's a handy tool to have if used effectively, which we seem to do (under various bosses).

If Deolofeu stays two seasons then that is an excellent deal, Lukaku improves us and you cant really say Martinez had better options than to bring in a short term improvement like that. My only concern is the increase in loan deals for the 'chasing pack' in the long term will strengthen the elites strangle hold

No problem using the loan market. It's just like using agency staff, who come at a premium but are expected to hit the ground running.

Wasting big money on ageing, limited players is far, far more of a concern.

I'm a bit meh about them. Yes, they might improve the team short term but long term it could cause an issue replacing them all if they do really well. I've no idea how much we have spent on the loan fees and wages, but if we take a guess of 12 million for all 3 players, that works out 15% of our turnover.

Will we loan them again next year?? I don't know, will we have the cash to replace them?? will other players similar be available on loan??

All valid questions these. And all questions i'm not even giving a second thought right now as I want to enjoy what we have for now.

I saw a quote a week or so ago from a Barcelona head honcho that they're willing to let Deolofeu stay an extra year if all is well. I'd take that right now.
