Here in finland we celebrate independence 6th of December. I was invited to parcitipate cermon - an honorary guard - at our local church and after that I go to the cemetary among other volunteers. We are being positioned next to the hero graves and we stand there. Our positions are determined by our age. So I stand next to man who died in the war at the age of 38. Most men that lost their lives were way under 30s. Humbled. Honoured.

Both of my grandfathers were proud Naval men. They fought (well one of them did as the other was Merch so he obvs didn’t do much) because they believed in standing up to evil and so that Europe was not divided by selfish and hateful division.

Politics doesn’t come into it.

Remembering everyone’s sacrifice.
