Today marks the 2nd anniversary of Ray’s passing. You’re a blue angel in heaven.

We did get him too late, but class is permanent especially when he was World class a former singer who was a great defender - a great overlapping full back England international playing in Division 2 .....at Huddisfield Town ....
It was apparent when you seen him for the blues he ozzed class ....but was more prone to injury with his age - he joked I left them and they won the league .....

It was the era of one man staying at one club eh like Labby etc .....
Ray stated as soon as he seen the Goodison set up he knew he should have long left Huddisfield Town ..
he transformed our left side in an emerging team a masterstroke signing again by the Catt.....

....had to laugh, Joey, I had an image of Ray Wilson being a bit of a crooner before realising auto-text didn’t recognise ‘winger’.

That Huddersfield team was very decent and included Dennis Law. It was managed by Bill Shankly, making Wilson one of only two players to have been managed by Shankly and Catterick. I think Wilson also played in two World Cups (1962 and 1966).

former winger Eggs -had a muddled day

I was in Amsterdam years back for Xmas and got chatting with someone who claimed, and who I still believe was telling the truth, to be Ray's grandson.

He was a sound bloke, despite, to my disgust his admittance to being an rs.

That's all I've got on Ray, would love to have seen him playing as he's always held in such high regard by those fortunate enough to have.

This is supposed to be a true story. Leeds United sent their Scout to a Huddersfield Town game. The Huddersfield left back named in the program was taken ill and couldn't play. A young Ray Wilson was put in his place. The Scout went back to Leeds raving about the Huddersfield left back but using the name in the program. Leeds bought him. I actually attended the first game he played for Leeds and he was absolutely useless. Late 1950's/early 1960's. I always hoped it was true!
