Remembering Koeman

Gotta say, I'm with you on this @davek. How much more of the crap that was being pedalled were we supposed to take? He couldn't have looked less interested if he tried. I admit, I was sold on the idea of Koeman when he arrived as I thought it was a step in the right direction, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating and with old Ronnie the pudding tasted like it was missing quite a few ingredients.

Not only that, Bud.....his obvious lack of interest in Everton FC transmitted itself to the players.

And then the unthinkable happened....the fans started becoming disinterested.

Lord knows I have lived through some fallow periods with this club but never did I lose interest and question my own commitment to the cause the way I did in the last few weeks of the Koeman era....in the wake of the Burnley defeat and Moshiri’s “unexpected losses” bombshell.

...it reminded me of the despair of the Walter Smith period.

I believe the opinion of him wanting to be fired is quite a valid one when you look back in perspective.

He wanted a striker that the club never delivered for him. Essentially he did play the tactics he wanted to play if he did have that striker almost as a act of defiance to the board as if to say it was their fault. The same tactics every single week , even the fact he had been given a player who's main strength was to assist aforementioned striker

That covers the who and what, now the Why? Money basically . He was getting paid enough to not want to walk away and the pay out for when he did get sacked made the dismissal worthwhile. Although from the start I didn't believe him to be anything other than a stability appointment and genuinely expected him to take us outside the top 4 before moving on. The simple point of him so unwavering in his job tbis season just screams a big f you to the board for letting him down . He wanted a defender, look board we are leaking goals. He wanted this striker, so the repercussions of not signing one was the results.

Trying my best to forget, but that will only be possible when we eventually get rid of all his garbage overpriced signings.

Cuco & Stek can be released, but Williams, Klaasen, Sigurdsson will take some shifting. No club will pay them what we’re paying or pay half the fee.

I feel like Koeman was really unlucky with the first 5 Premier League games. It was always going to be difficult to take many points from them. After being well beaten by Chelsea, Tottenham and Man Utd, confidence was low. Had we started with 5 winnable games we might have taken say 13 points and confidence would be high.

I always felt like Leicester's title win was partially due to the fact that they started with a run of winnable games and they just kept the momentum going. By the time they played the tough fixtures they had plenty of points on the board and the pressure was off.

However, whether he was unlucky or not I still feel we were right to sack Koeman. I can't think of many examples in the last 20 years where a manager turned it round once the rot set in and I don't think Koeman would have turned this round.
