Remedies to fix football

Player Valuation: £8m
On the basis that the rest of english football doesnt want the same 3/4 teams to win everything in perpetuity - these are my proposals to (the newly) philanthropic/ethically driven premier league board.

- return to 50/50 split of gate receipts between home and away teams
- all monies earned by overseas commercial deals to go into a premier league pool and shared equally
- champions league tv/prize money to be capped at £20m per team with the surplus being distributed equally between the football league and grassroots football
- salary cap as a % of turnover to be introduced
- standard ticket prices capped at £5 for the young and old,£10 for rest
- limit on total number of players employed by clubs (including those loaned out)
- loans between clubs in same division banned
- rule introduced banning tv from selecting games for sat am/mon pm between teams that are over a certain radius from each other i.e bournemouth/newcastle
- best efforts made to ensure the most local fixtures possible are played over the xmas period
- any time a player represents england the originating academy receives a merit payment
- michael owen banned from co-commentary/david james from analyst position

Given you only need a 14-6 majority to pass the above (and there are at least 14 have nots in the leadue) - this should be fairly easy to pass through.

Get rid of the Prem. and bring back divisions 1 to 4
Return to 42 games a season
European cup only for champions
Sky goes bust
Only one substitute per side
Bring back the cup winners cup
Allow a well smacked arse for young, petulant players

  • Universally adopted wage structure (incentives to be provided as bonuses by clubs, regulated so as not to be excessive)
  • Universal contract length (service can be rewarded with bonuses as above)
  • Universal player valuation set by regulatory body taking into account contract length, value and service to club, and realistic chance of replacement
  • One month transfer window in summer that does not overlap with competitive games, scrap January window
  • Regulatory body to determine ticket prices, universally
  • Regulatory body to hold player registrations on behalf of clubs, not clubs themselves

Go down the route of the US sports leagues with a "Superbowl style" finish. At least then the fancy teams have to work a bit harder to qualify for the finals and CL.

A lot of ideas in here are good thoughts and would all improve the game for the consumer.

But for the owners/chairman/sponsors/Fifa etc none of these would profit from it so it wont happen.

I hope football swallows its self up its own bum hole and then I can form a new baseketball style game were sponsors and endorsements and the players own the clubs rule

very broken.

When it first came into being, the Sunderland chairman proposed there would be no promotion from the championship to the Premiership.
It actually wouldn't have been a bad idea as 95% of the fixtures would have been irrelevant, and more thought might have been put into how the league was run, including financially, which is at the core of the problem. With regards winning trophies ,it seems that still only 5% of clubs will challenge for the title, and that isn't going to change any time soon.
One day, fans will give up and stop investing in the sport at that level, lower league games are probably far more attractive these days, with a good 70% of clubs involved in promotion, play off chances & relegation issues late in the season.

major thought as to how our national sport needs to be run is in urgent need .I like @Groucho thinking

A Supporters Trust to sit on every board.

Bring back standing for those who want to stand.

Allow beer on the terraces.

Only charge a maximum £20 per ticket for Premier League games.

And a ridiculous one which would allow us all to have some fun - Have a European wide draft system, imagine it, Aguero playing for Norwich City and Messi playing for Tromso.

The problem is that most people don't think it's broken, or at least not broken enough to cause problems. Attendances are huge, money is pouring in, people are making money.

I honestly had no idea that this was ever the case.
