Referees !!

I'd like to see a live TV show where all VAR officials are shown replays of clear errors they make, despite having replays, technology and all the time in the world, and ask them to account for their decisions. Bowen's handball v Luton being a case in point.

I'd like to see the interviewer persistently ask "how much dud that decision earn you?" Or "is there a script?"

ref gave us nothing yesterday, there were three bookable offences that weren't given retrospectively in our second goal build up alone. Short pulling on us the entire game. Shocking, same for when Danjuma was hauled down, started outside the box, ended inside, clearly the rules say it should be a penalty, if it wasn't a penalty, what a bout a red card for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity; Danjuma was clear on goal

They've become borderline theatre, haven't they? There's no limit to what they can conjur up (@chrismpw has touched on this regarding scripts), especially when the only real punishment for them that I'm aware of is being taken off duties for a game week. That will teach them!
Too many want to be centre stage.

There was a piece in The Athletic about a month back with Mike Dean who said that referees make certain decisions due to biases against certain clubs and their fanbases.

Agree. The counter argument I hear is that players make mistakes and we don't demand that of them. However VAR have the ability to pause the game and review the video footage over and over to make a right decision. And yet they still make shocking mistakes, in fact I wouldn't call them mistakes, it's incompetence.

I haven't seen the Bowen incident but the Man City vs Fulham goal was terrible, and Sheffield should have had a man sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

That counter argument is invalid though. Mistakes are part of a players game. VAR is there solely to prevent officiating mistakes, not create further ones.

Thing is they cannot be mistakes. The evidence is clear to see. If things are being ignored it has to be for a reason. As far as I can see that reason has to be either scripting or back handers. If anybody can see another reason for it I'm all ears (Well technically eyes.... since this is a written medium).

Referees I think are salaried so taken off duties for a week is in effect paid for the bad job you done. The wife wants a week in Spain the ref makes a few bad calls next thing booked it packed it effed off!!Get Dominic littlewood to expose the rogues.

Have no problems in hoovering up all the best talent, league would be doing themselves a favour by appointing high performing referees from around the globe, to ensure a better product for paying customers.

Getting much worse with VAR, which I didn’t think was possible.

The shambles of a ref we had on sat was atrocious, but he was probably outdone by what followed with some of the goals that were allowed at city, arsenal and the rs in particular - it’s mind boggling and clearly corrupt.

I've said it before as well. The premier league is unquestionably the highest quality in the world. Why is that? It offers the best wages and is open to the best players in the world.

Wouldn't it make sense then to do the same with the match officials?

The Premier League want fast flowing, end to end, 'exciting' football with their established brands remaining at the top/successful so that they can guarantee maximised worldwide profits. They don't want the game being regularly stopped for shirt pulling (which wasn't an accepted thing before the Premier League) or for kicking the ball away at a free kick or for feignng injuries to waste time. Our refs are rubbish, and some of the worst in world football, but they only implementing the (unwritten0 rules of the money grabbers in power. They're still s***e though.
