Referees' preferences

I have always accepted that referees will be prone to shy away from big decisions in front of massive support (eg, giving a penalty to the opposition in front of the Stretford End etc), and I accept this to some extent as being down to human nature rather than any preference for Man U and others.

However, I am beginning to wonder whether these refs can give decisions against teams that they actually dislike. Like us for example.
I am trying hard not to be paranoid here, but already this season we have had a couple of bad decisions given against us. Rodwell's 'goal' being ruled out didn't matter in the end but again it seemed very harsh on us.

One penalty against Newcatle in the last game of last season doesn't support the saying that 'these things equal themselves out over a whole season' in my book after the number of stonewall pens turned down in previous matches.
We had a perfectly good goal at Blackburn chalked off and as for Clattenberg...... first against the wall come the revolution.

It will be interesting when Johnson starts playing for Fulham to see whether the penalties start rolling again for him. He didn't seem to have any problems earning them at Palace.

Still, we're only two games into the season so I may be worrying for no reason. Respect and all that.

fact of an evertonians life, they hate us...i just learn to live with it until a saturday afternoon when everyone around me gets pissed off with me for slagging every decision

Refs always seem to be on the side of any team in red ie Arsenal, Manure and the [Poor language removed] can never do any wrong. Thay just hate us end of... We're very hostile to some refs and word gets around to the rest of them.

Whats the consensus on Rodwells disallowed goal and the Neville handball at the weekend?

I havent seen the goal but the handball looked very borderline. Thought rightresult might of mentioned them even though they didnt affect the win it still affects goal difference which can be very important.

i dont think it was a fair pen... i am sure the ball spun off his leg and onto his arm tough call tho....

I watched the Pompey mancs match in a reasonably neutral frame of mind - Hate mancs and Pompey likely to be close to us this season (if we can perform that is!!).

Anyway, it really struck me how the ref gave sfa to Pompey and everything to the Mancs.

I was also somewhat amused at the expression on Crouch's face when every time he jumped for the ball he was penalised.

His expression was basically " But Ref this is what I have been doing at the RS for the past few seasons and there was no problem".

Welcome to the non-SKY4 Mr Crouch, and taste the reality of very different refereeing styles when your club is not one of them!!

Thought the pen was stonewall to be honest. Hit his leg then he brought his arm down to control the ball. Thats a pen. Nothing wrong with Rodwell goal though

Rep'd.

We have been really lucky to avoid some red cards this season. McCarthy, Barry and Mirallas all could have easily been given reds.
