Guys Looking for some advice. About to be made redundant due to the site closing and relocating down south. Refused to relocate due to poor offer, meant they didn't really want us to move. My question is they are asking me to train someone for my job do I have to do this?

If your still employed by them unfortunately yes
Remember you have nothing to lose by not training them properly or missing key aspects or playing a simpleton
Remembering if your senior questions your application you can mention how upset you are at losing you job
Which means you cant get dismissed for misconduct
;)
Edit...
Sorry to hear your losing your job
Hopefully you'll find something soon
Which they should give you time of for

Always best to stay professional until the end mate; not necessarily for the reference, but it means you leave with self-esteem and motivation intact. Not vital in the short term but a major thing when you get yourself ready to job hunt again.

Bear in mind too that the vast, vast majority of people you know will have had gaps in employment. It doesn't have to be a negative (bar the financial implications which vary person to be person) so good luck to you really.

The level and quality of training is all down to you
If the trainee is not up to standard that’s not your problem.
You can make every task you show him as simple or as complicated as you wish.
Never refuse to do anything you are asked but the amount of real effort you put into it is entirely down to you
On the other hand does it really bother you if you have no intention of staying with the company.
Can I ask your age and the terms of the redundancy

Sorry to hear that mate.. Never an easy situation. Been there myself a couple of times. Last time was the best to be honest. Glad to escape in the end and move on to bigger and better. Plus the guy I had to train up and show everything I knew got told about 10% of what he really needed to know.. Left them right in the s&$£.. :)

Great advice from Orly there mate, I would listen. I work in recruitment and, unfortunately, closures and redundancies are part of life. You need to keep your head up and don't part with your company under a cloud. That sort of bitterness and pettiness can follow you into interviews and jobs and diminish your value as an employee or prospective candidate, even on a personal level you might not be able to see yourself. Train the new guy well, secure a good reference and see this as a new chapter.

Sorry to hear that mate. You should be entitled to take time off to go for interviews and look for work I think. Use that as much as you can.

Hope you get fixed up with something before it happens and is better than what you do now.

Sorry to hear that if they expect you to train someone just go through the very basics with that person take your pay and redundancy - if they are moving down south you would need treble the money your on now!
