Reducing Goodison Capacity

One issue which keeps creeping up at the moment is the hospitality issue or should i say the lack of corporate hospitality. Currently at, for example, the Eastlands and Wembley they have these boxes with a small balcony style area which seem to be very popular, something we do not offer. However, while at the game last night the idea cropped into my head that we could reduce the normal capacity of Goodison, shall we say by around 3,000 and introduce these boxes. The Upper Bullens would be perfect for this kind of modification.

In an ideal world we could build a shiny new stadium with these boxes but that isnt going to happen, therefore we need to look at how we can use what we currently have. I dont know if it would even be possible to build these boxes but it was just a thought.

I think the theory behind this all rests on whether it's more viable to lose 3,000 matchday tickets and replace it with income from corporate boxes.

It is actually not a bad idea the more I think about it. I've seen stadiums with 36,000 have more boxes than Goodison. The boxes could even be worked around the current posts holding up the roof.

With the extra money raised that could go towards making use of the Park End space and increasing capacity back up there.

One thing though, I've heard we don't sell out our corporate boxes as it is? Don't take my word for that though

Thats what i was thinking, if you built the boxes using the support beams end of each box you also remove the horrible restricted views and makes the ground a look a tad bit nicer.

I dont think we do to be honest. But, to be fair, its not the greatest and could be vastly improved. These boxes allow privacy and more comfortable experience then, say one of the lounges where you then have to go and sit in the main stand along with 5000 other fans. These boxes are often bought by companies to use for their own hospitality events and/or away days for their employees.

Simple fact is that Everton could not financially sustain a loss on matchday ticket sales whilst modifications where being carried, never mind the cost of actually completing the work.

I couldn't think of a worse stand to use for boxes than the Upper Bullens, any kind of boxes in there and the remaining seats couldn't see the touchline.

That 'arl scoreboard gantry extended all the way across the park end woulkd be a better option, but in the meantime some of those aluminium tables and chairs up there would do.

You could complete the work at the end of the season, therefore taking no hit on matchday sales.

I can see what you mean, but if we use the balcony style boxes fans would still be able to look right across the pitch. The private suite where they eat etc is behind them having no effect on views.

so are you saying to do away with seating in the upper bullens all together ? cos if it was a balcony with a box behind i.e. under the upper bullens seating then it would be obscuring what is already a terrible view in the lower (underneath, not the paddock).

I always thought that with the old scoreboard removed a row of boxes could go along the back of the park end (old trafford used to be like this before the expansion) or under the top balc as it is high enough to not obscure the main stand seats, I've not been in there for years tbh, it may obscure the back rows ? .

i often wonder about a refurb of lower bullens, not the paddock, just underneath. you could have rows of seats at the front and corporate rooms behind.

upper bullens isn't too bad unless you get behind a post, there are far more obstructions in the back half of lower
