No doubt there will be a lot of WW1 related books and stuff this year, but currently reading The War That Ended Peace, and it's fantastic. It looks at the period leading up the war from the perspective of Britain, Germany, France, Austro-Hungary, Russia, even Japan and China to provide a really good picture of the situation in Europe at the time and why war broke out.

I think it's important that we learn from wars (and why they start) rather than just remembering them.

Another good WW1 read is The Good Soldier Svejk. A Czech book, it's a satire of war as told from a recruit in the Austro-Hungarian side.
