Youth rebellion, counter culture, the protest movement. What happened to them?

For decades teenagers got up their parents generations noses by the way they dressed, acted and the music they listened to. Starting in the 50’s through the 60’s and 70’s even the 80’s. Where are the rebels now?

I always assumed it was the duty of the young to change society. What I see now is conformity.

Has society run out of ideas or just lost the will to have fun and shake things up?

It's just a rant. Last weekend I saw a family out together, nice but they all looked alike. Same clothes, same hair, same order at a bland coffee chain. Then I noticed more clone families around town. It started to feel like Stepford. I felt sad for the kids who looked like they were on a corporate team building excercise rather than enjoying a day out on the first nice sunny weekend of the year.

I guess that's the power of social media, TV etc. They've shown everyone that there's a sub-culture for all, so people just find the one that suits them and carries on regardless. You still see the skaters, the goths (not as many, I must admit), but as regards rebellion goes, why rebel when you can just join a chatroom and whinge about it there...

you kidding me? we have the most effective rebels of all time. They just don't stop at silly haircuts and noserings.

you've had punks, goths, skaters, hippies... now you have hackers.

In the last 5 years, hackers have actively taken on government agencies EFFECTIVELY, mexican drug cartels, Israel during the bombing of palestine, multinational corporations, single handedly broken up pedophile rings, scientology and the westboro baptist church, the syrian government during the syrian civil war.

Wikileaks (which admittedly isn't a youth movement, but a force non the less) uncovered massive amounts of lies and corruption in almost every government in the world, rebelling against the norm and soon it seems Julian Assange will be an Australian Senator, meaning he will have diplomatic immunity whilst he continues his work.

Due to me being a young'n myself, can someone enlighten me as to when any group had such influence and such force when it comes to sticking it to the man?
