Reasons to be cheerful.

Many of us are blessed in so many ways (health, family, friends) that it is silly to make ourselves miserable over the fate of a football club, no matter how much we love it. Keep sight of that.

Everton will be Everton. This is all I can assure you of. We knew that when we gave it our hearts, and will get the full measure of the reward or heartbreak that goes along with it. The tomorrows will arrive and we'll see what they bring. Until then, stick and move, stick and move.

The fact Everton have been so awful makes that win even sweeter. Plus it was so nice to see Unsworth and co smiling.

Also, tonight I made an Ecuadorian coconut flan with orange caramel, and it was bloody delicious, even though the caramel was a nightmare to make and I had to nip out to the Co-Op to buy some desiccated coconut as I am a meff and forgot I'd run out. Sort of Everton related as I've been doing this project where I make different dishes - usually puddings or cakes, but there have been a few savouries - from countries that have produced Everton players and/or managers.

ETA: and Beni has the best hair I've seen on an Everton player since Fellaini.

Ronald? That you? Expecting to lose, especially at home is poor.

Selling our only world class player, failing to replace him and then immediately playing most of last seasons top 6 and expecting anything else is deluded.

Our all round squad is not really better than last season except for possibly in goal and that is the real tragedy having spent what we have.

Having said that, the real reason Koeman had to go because of the way the team was playing - the games we won weren't convincing and the games we lost we showed little cohesion and creativity. Our best performance by a country mile was Man City (against 10 men for most of it) and if the same level of passion and commitment had been evident against some of the other top teams, Koeman may still have a job despite the game outcomes to date.

No team can win football matches without confidence - ours has been shot - hopefully we now have something to build on and can start moving towards the 7th place finish which will forever be our reality until we can start to attract a completely different class of player to this football club. Or failing that, find a manager that can consistently get players to play beyond themselves.

Onwards and upwards!!

I have also placed my offical Everton cap (bought at Liverpool One by yours truly) directly on top of my Chicago Cubs Gold Edition 2016 World Series Champions cap on my hat rack. Perhaps some of Theo Epstein's baseball nous can be transmitted to Evertonian powers that be in a footy form.

Hey, the hat went on before the Watford match. It's staying there.

Good thing baseball guys aren't superstitious.
