The rain, it raineth every day
I've been watching/supporting Everton for forty years. Apart from the mid 80's and the cup win we've won nowt. We're the nearly club who reach semi- finals and finals without winning. We reach 7th. 6 th. and 5th. We've had one great side, some good sides and some dross. The same goes for the managers.
We have a manager who we know can get a side playing good football. He's made mistakes but hasn't every manager. We might still win a cup this year.
What are the alternatives ? We get rid of him at the end of the season and get who ? A middle ranking English manager ; a foreign manager ; someone from the Championship ?
What happens when results and expectations are not fulfilled, as invariably happens. Do we get rid of him ?
Let Martinez have a full summer without distractions and then see how next season pans out.
If you know your history, you know we haven't been a successful club for over 40 years so I think we should let the man finish the season, take stock and make the necessary changes, and come out fighting next season.
I await your vitriol with amused anticipation.

I have been watching for round about the same length of time as yourself.

To be honest, I don't know if I am interested in the way Martinez wants to play football.

All those pases across the back line......the turning away from goal and playing it back instead of forcing the play because of a belief that "nothing is on".....the lack of inventiveness and apparent lack of practice at set pieces....the reluctance to get shots in.

I am finding it all very boring now.

I agree, it isn't scintillating but I think that, given time, and the right players, he could give us cause for optimism. We'll never know if we get rid of him

Meh...you mostly got it right.

No vitriol here. Just head scratching...this season really doesn't make a lot of sense in the big scheme...everything that went right last season has found its counter this one.

It is what it is, innit?

Despite what others say our core group of players..the spine are still v young and bound to be inconsistent .

Stones McCarthy Besic Barkley Rom.

No better young core group in the premiership than them.

Add in our injuries early part of season...experienced professionals going hiding and ridiculous no of individual mistakes.

Lets stay up. Next season is massive as Roberto has it all to prove again.

This doesn't help bigging up the players beyond reality. Did you not watch the two teams playing Tuesday? One team had an average age of 23 while the other 24 with a 35 year old playing for them. We have some good young players who could have a very bright future, my money says that will not be under Bobby.

The rest of this season is going to be making the most of the present circumstances. We need to win home games like Leicester, and if we play for clean sheets in tough home games, or games against the "top 4" teams, then so be it. We need to do what we can to keep safe and try to climb the league as much as possible. We also need to be pragmatic and realise that an attacking philosophy is what we should aim to achieve in the long-term, but it isn't working this season.

The summer will be the real telling period. There are a lot of players who could potentially be leaving the squad, either because they're too old, not suited to the new system, or they want to leave. There is going to be a bit of clear out and Martinez has quite a bit of re-building to do. To look at it from a positive perspective, it will give him the chance to build the team in his vision. If he does that, there will be no excuse for resorting to "negative" tactics like he has done in recent games.

I think Roberto has earned the right to keep the job until next season.

Touch of second season syndrome. Alot of players, mainly key players have unexpectedly dropped several levels.

The promise of last seasons style and performances is too promising to be rash in this situation, need a big overhaul in the summer and judge him properly starting next year.

An awful lot of trusted players have let everyone down this season. As Sagey mentioned, key players have dropped several levels and its cost us big time. Individual errors was a big part of why the first half of the season was so downright dreadful, we appear to have cut them out now which is promising. Its a weird season this and i expect at the very least Mirallas to leave, but i hope our other top players can give the manager another year, because with a good overhaul and freshening of the squad in the Summer, we'll be far, far better next Season.
