Bluerover

Player Valuation: £60m
I felt this was the appropriate forum rather than World football - the loss of a part of one's identity/symbolism in order to get money.

The cross is quite small and is actually on top of the crown in the crest.

It will be removed from all merchandise sold in Abu Dhabi (not clear if this will also apply in the many other Muslim countries). It will remain on merchandise in Europe apparently.

Would Milan, Inter and Barca consider removing the Cross of St George in similar circumstances??

I find it quite nauseating.

Sad state of affairs really, all of it. The massive sell-out, the pandering over a teeny-tiny cross, the fact their supporters club card comes in the form of a credit card. Yuck.

Don't clubs with beer sponsors remove them from shirts when playing in the middle east though? Isn't this similar?

Didnt we do that in Lille? Against the law in France or something. Which is fair enough I guess.

Removing sponsors from a shirt to comply with laws is different from removing part of the club's identity to appease sponsors.

True, in countries where it is against the law. But is it against the law to have beer sponsors on shirts in the middle east, or removed simply to avoid offence?

the bigger question in this story is why they have to remove that to stop them getting 'offended'.

Im sorry but thats why islam extremists and the many many bad things that have arisen in the last 15 years exist.

We need to change our identities lest we offend someone on the other side of the world. Or change our holiday tradtions in case the muslim family who have just moved here takes offence. Not taken offence even, might take offence.

Load of crap if you ask me, if Abu Dhabi are offended by something that small then it should be their problem, not anyone elses.

Unless islam is the religion that rules the world that is.

Or stopping RM players making a cross sign when they come on, or score wearing a shirt with their sponsors on it? Nuts this.
