Nigerian defender Joseph Yobo is expected in Madrid before the end of the week and expected put pen to paper on a €13.3 million (£9.5 million) transfer from EPL club Everton.

The move comes out of the blue for Madrid. Yobo, 26, has impressed for Everton for the past five years and is considered an athletic defender with a lot of international experience for Nigeria, for whom he will star in next season's African Nations Cup.

Yobo's agent John Obwonofero said: "We have been aware of interest from Madrid for one week now, Joseph will be sad to leave Everton but as you can imagine it is difficult to turn down the pull of Real Madrid".

Yobo is expected to be presented at the Bernabau on Friday morning and will not be elligible for the remaining fixtures in the Primera Division, of which Real Madrid lead.
