Ratings vs Swansea

I thought McGeady was our best player in the first half, Besic the best in the second half and McCarthy the best over the 90 minutes.

Alcaraz was 'fine' until he went off. Bony causes difficulties for most defenders and although he looked 'nervy' at times, he defended relatively well.

Barkley was frustrating yesterday. He may have turned and charged at Swansea a couple of times, but it was head down stuff with little outlay.

He dawdled when it came to deciding whether to pass or attempt to beat a man, which often meant he lost the ball or ended up out wide.

His closing down and pressing weren't too good either - did anyone see when he pulled out of the free header?

I'm not going to blame lack of match fitness, or the effects of the heavy tackle early on. Ross simply had an off day like we all do occasionally.

Aiden looked much livelier today which was a positive. He's 'too' natural though, and doesn't use his mind enough which leads to poor decisions.

Baines doesn't like corners anymore. Seamus hasn't returned from his head injury too well, but that will return.

Alcaraz was lucky to not concede a blatant penalty and got caught out of position at least once and turned twice in half an hour.

Lucky last week that he was playing against a striker who has never scored in the prem but he tried his best to help Jargawich to break his duck.

Hopefully Stones is back soon and that's the last we see of Alcaraz.

I thought McCarthy was excellent and Besic, Barry and Jags also put in very strong performances. Seamus gave plenty of endeavor but wasn't able to get into the game as much as usual. Baines' set pieces were god awful.
