I'm on the complete opposite side, I don't understand why people dislike them. The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A are minor masterpieces and continue to produce gems, such as the one i posted above.

So they're a one-hit wonder then?

Come on, I want an explanation not simply a youtube video.

They are the direct opposite.

Few bands, if any, can boast the same level of consistency as Radiohead over the past 20 years. Each album manages to do something new whilst maintaining a very high level of quality.

Their individual members are all ludicrously talented (Jonny Greenwood singlehandedly did the soundtrack to There Will Be Blood) but together they manage to create music that achieves in every way. Despite warping from a classic alt rock band into an unrecognisable amalgam of electronic and alternative they still manage to create music that challenges, interests and excels.

It's hard to convey the appeal of any music with words. This isn't literature -- it's all about listening. If you can listen to "Lucky" without feeling anything, if you can listen to "Reckoner" without wanting to move your feet, if you can listen to "Electioneering" without getting angry... Well, you have my sympathies!

I just got ****ged off by a Radiohead fan because I'm going to see Coldplay tonight. They said Chris Martin's voice was so whiny that they wanted to put a brick through his face. I'm confused.

I liked Karma Police btw. I like some Radiohead songs. I like listening to Thom Yorke talking about music and his inspiration. I like a lot of what they do instrumentally (if it can be called that). I just want to get my head around what makes people think they're the dogs danglies. I don't want examples and then "See? they're boss." It doesn't explain anything. It's like saying:
"Tolkien is boss lad"
"Why?"
"Just read it lad"

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best songs ever written. The emotion they managed to get into a simple 4 chords song is incredible.

Not even arsed.

I get what you're saying, and it is closer to the explanation of what I'm looking for. The "one hit wonder" was a joke by the way, to the fact that I'm asking why someone is so great and I get given a single piece of a huge portfolio.

Reckoning grates on me, to be honest.

I just gave you examples.

And mate that guy wasn't a Radiohead fan. He was one of those bulbs that pretend to love anything that can make them feel superior. Liking Coldplay should have nothing to do with an opinion of Radiohead. They are two different bands, and whilst Coldplay definitely owe some things to Radiohead, every artists owes something to someone.

Greatest band of the last 20 years, need i say anymore? The music they have created, especially OK Computer and Kid A (my 2 personal favorites) have changed the face of music as we know it and have crossed boundaries sonically that a huge, influential band had not yet crossed.

It's tough to name songs that convey Radiohead as they have a great many styles.

Surprised you don't like Reckoner. That's usually a universally popular one... that said nothing is universally popular, except maybe cheese on toast.

I like some Radiohead albums better than other, and I don't have a problem saying that as a fan. I will tell you that no matter what you're into, Radiohead has something to offer you. If you like guitars, there are albums that are as good as anything. If you like electronica (not necessarily the dancy kind), there's loads for you. I like the fact that they are both original AND talented.

15:00 in. Whiny. Ruins the song for me, which is a shame, because I love the understatedness of the ambient sounds and the premise of the song.

Radiohead are, for me, a lot like Bob Dylan. A lot of good stuff. A lot of crap stuff. Not completely fair to compare Thom's voice to Dylans (as his was shocking), but he is as tuneless and hard to understand sometimes.
