That's a bit extreme, I think. I hate diving cheats as much as anyone, but that's opening the door for corruption.

hmm I agree, I mean most Man Utd supporters are disgusted at what Young did, it shouldn't affect the club overall, rather your own reputation through bans/fines...unless you're the RS, deduct as many points as you want from them :P

If the Fa had been dishing out punishments for diving then Andrew Johnson would of played about 10 games for us between suspensions.

Sure, he didn't dive but of all the times he got fouled and not awarded a penalty were considered dives which they could of been how would you all of felt at losing a player that way?

Difference between being fouled and not being awarded a penalty and a blatant dive in order to get a penalty. Think there should be retrospective action taken in the case of the latter if we are to eliminate diving from the game.

But the point is its impossible for anyone to watch a video and prove a dive.

Sure, in some cases you can say with a lot of certainty that it was but only 1 person knows for sure and thats the "diver" himself.

At which point you risk players getting banned (as they get booked now) for diving when they were legitimatly fouled or even just lost their balance.

But maybe thats a price worth paying to eradicate diving as much as possible, gonna be some innocent victims (as there are now obviously).

Imagine the outcry if Baines had been retrospectively banned this week for taking a dive on Monday therefor missing the semi even though he just lost his balance with no contact.

Just out of interest, what was Derry attempting to do when placing his hand on Youngs side? Put him off his shot and get away with it by any chance cause i don't see any part of the game that involves doing that. If his hands were kept to himself more than likely the pen wouldnt of been given or the red overturned if it was ala Rodwell.

But when the hand made contact thats enough to cause the doubt as to whether Young was fouled or not.

Just playing devils advocate really though by the way and trying to see the opposite view.

The problem is that as the referee hasn't seen the offside then it can't be taken into account.

Added to that, even though the contact was minimal, the referee has stood by it and, as such, he's the last man and the red card is valid.

That's according to the rules. In the "real" world, it's absolutely ludicrous.
