Pushing for Europe

Twice now from different sources I have heard that apparently we are fighting for a European place. It is now in the Liverpool Echo where it says we are pushing strongly for a place in Europe. But as far as I can see we cant finish 6th now so how is it possible we can get a European place? Is it just bad journalism or am I missing something here.
