Footballers who have died from heart ailments
Antonio Puerta
The Sevilla midfielder died on Tuesday aged 22, three days after collapsing during a Primera Liga match against Getafe.
Hugo Cunha
In Portugal, the Uniao Leiria midfielder collapsed and died during a game with friends in June 2005. He was 28.
Serginho
The Sao Caetano defender died aged 30 after suffering a cardio-respiratory arrest during a Brazilian championship match at Sao Paulo in October 2004.
Miklos Feher
In January 2004, the 24-year-old Hungarian international died after collapsing from a heart attack in a game between his club Benfica and Vitoria Guimaraes.
Max Ferreira
The 20-year-old Brazilian died in hospital in July 2003 after feeling unwell while training for Botafogo Ribeirao Preto.
Marc-Vivien Foe
Collapsed during Cameroon's game against Colombia in June 2003 and died shortly afterwards, aged 28.
Marcio Dos Santos
In October 2002, the Brazilian died of a heart attack just hours after scoring for Peruvian side Deportivo Wanka. He was 28.
Dave Longhurst
The York City striker died aged 25 after collapsing two minutes before half-time in a league match against Lincoln City in September1990. He had suffered from a rare heart condition.
Samuel Okwaraji
Collapsed in August 1989, near the end of Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against Angola. Died from cardiac failure. He was 24.
