SOE#s servers back up fully had to change passwords etc,but back to normal for them so they do seem to be on the case with it.

Seems a lot of companies were getting hacked over the week after all this.

Eidos and Facebook had security breaches with customers info being compromised

Eidos was workers info wasn't it? C.V's etc, while you cant compare 100 million users to 350 c.v's and 25k emails but it's bad for Eidos and for whatever reason these attacks seem to be getting worse,

Some good HAS to come out of this big assed companies can now no longer treat our personal info with disdain,it should be treated as a privilege by all companies, not just Sony but the lot of them, from the mighty Amazon to the little online retailer who has 20 sales a week.

We as customers deserve better we choose to give any retailer our custom they should put us,not their profit's first as the old saying goes the customer is always right.

To those who "well PSN is free" i say this that doesn't matter,it isn't free, you give them credit card details etc to buy from the store, there are now sub only games there it was up to Sony to protect our info, this they failed to do and no doubt will be punished further by it.

But for me no company cant take comfort that it was just Sony who was hit this time there does seem to be more high profile hacks than normal so now,if lessons are learned from this sorry episode companies will throw more money into our protection becuase if they dont and attack after attack happens then people will move elsewhere to do their shopping/gaming etc.

User data was stolen from their Deus Ex website as well as emails and CV's.

As for the argument of "its free", that was leveled at the downtime of the network. With Xbox you're paying a subscription to play online - that goes down, you'd be pissed off. The PSN to play online is free...so when that goes down, Im not arsed that I cant play COD online for a few weeks as I aint paying monthly for the honor of playing a game online. PSN Plus users might feel worse...but that subscription doesnt add to the online part of playing games.

But I agree with everything else you've said.

Ive just downloaded an update but still cant sign in, I take I need to sign in first to change my password.
There is an option to do this Via a PC but their website now appears to be down

Yeah it does seem that way about Eidos,as i say you cant compare the two incidents but really what was the point behind that hack? nonwhatsoever in my book, really the little gits should be strung up by their buster browns and have done with it.

I utterly disagree about PSN being free,it's not,yes there's no subscription for it (yet)but the first slice of DLC you want in go the credit card details (unless you use the cards that simply weren't there at the PS3 launch),so Sony had a duty to protect their customers, they failed spectacularly and will no doubt be punished for it(as they should be too) as for the online stuff yes i agree it doesn't bother me tbh,i'm too old and long in the tooth to be playing COD(mainly becuase its crap),I've been without my SOE MMO for 2 weeks now it's just come back and hey its good to be back i can see when i log in to my account clear improvements to it and thats a good thing, but why did it take this incident to make them do it?so the loss of 2 weeks subscription hasn't bothered me but what has annoyed me is a huge breach of trust, something that may well take years for Sony to recover from.

I hope as i say ALL online retailers etc learn from this they have to take our custom seriously we damn well deserve it.

This. They are gayers. Its back but its not. There getting lessons from kenright "were being bought but theres no buyers".

It is being rolled out across the US first, Iguess to check the system really is working and also to stop evryone logging on at the same time. Hopefully Europe will be next but it might well be Japan that get connected next.

Japan it seems has to wait for its governments say so,cant find that report from this morning so it could have been updated.

Not the most reliable source but it goes to show how widespread this attack was

IT IS BACK UP IN THE UK!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your personal info you willingly give to the PSN, you're going to need it :)

Every hacker in the world will have a pop at it again to see if they can beat the upgraded security.

You'd have to be mad not to leave PSN well alone for the next three to six months.
