Saved a penalty at the Gallowgate End of St James Park playing for Northumberland Boys v Newcastle Boys in a schoolboy international warm up game. It was in the last few minutes so most of the crowd were in (probably about 5000 but they were all in the end behind me) and it meant we won 2-1.

I didn't know it at the time but apparently Kevin Richardson was playing for the Newcastle Boys. This may or may not be true but we are the same age.

I keep hearing this alluded to, and have read the reason before, but remind em again why Palace hate the Seagulls??
Steve Foster assassinated Archduke Ferdinand which led to the outbreak of WW1.
Alan Mullery was Lord Haw Haw
The 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster was caused by Jimmy Melia's white cup final suit being left unattended on an Aeroflot flight.

.....and there's more.

...I seem to remember the train line (Blue Bell Line?) went through Thornton Heath, past Selhurst and on to Brighton.

there's a few - whilst at uni we had a decent team, in the div 2 of our intramural league. In the cup quarter final we played reigning champions and runaway premier div leaders the medics. They were unbeaten in the league. We won 3-2, I bagged an assist and got MoM. We did lose in the semi finals, but the team we were up against had a load of semi pros in it.

A few others stick in my mind, like scoring a 30 yard wonder aged 10, then knee sliding in front of all the parents. And scoring the only goal in a school match that we won 1-0 - not a massive achievement on the surface but I was playing 3 age groups higher than my own... think I was 8 and they were 11, I should have had a hatful that day, still got the old vhs to reminisce and realise that I used to be decent, not sure what happened.
