I like this one of his:
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
Does sort of explain why very creative people are often complete arseholes, but no one changed the world by just nodding their head and agreeing with everyone all the time.
Calvin CoolidgeNothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. |
Not the rubbish spouted by posters or those employed to improve the performance of an underpaid staff .... a place for our favourite quotations to help when we need a lift.
I'll kick off with this - I'd argue one of the greatest speeches ever written to sum up humanity. Actually makes me well up when I read it.
