Premier League 'B' league

By far the best supported 2nd division in the world, competitive as hell too. HEY GUYS! HEY GUYS! YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE GREAT! WE SHOULD TOTALLY MAKE THE CHAMPIONSHIP IRRELEVANT JUST SO CITY CAN STOCK UP ON EVEN MOAR PLAYERZ!

So we are back to the age old debate of people from England having an ABE mentality and thinking that you can only support one of England or Everton.

This particular debate angers and bores me in equal amounts.

I have to say this is the most mixed up debate, we have gone from the re-naming of the reserve league to the style of play of England managers to people competing as to who hates England more.....Oh and yeah and the brand and colour of trabs.

always said they should do this.
People come back with the 'we have the best lower leagues in the world'. Who gives a flying ***. We aren't winning World Cups and Euros. Germany and Spain are laughing at us

Presumably the supporters of teams in the lower leagues.

I for one barely raise a flicker of the eyebrow at "international" football.

It's easy, just slowly start to leak reserve teams into the league, that simple. Win the reserves league, get a place in the conference, and on the football ladder.
Look at Spain, and Germany, they have teams doing this. In the past i Can remember Real Madrid, Barca, Málaga, Sevilla and Villarreal all having 'b' teams in the second tier, and whilst their second tier is the equivalent of League one of two, with a smattering of Championship quality teams, imagine the exposure some of these players could get playing in league one or something!

We discussed this before. Damages English football and provides less opportunities for English players to come through. Not a fan of the idea at all. Theres enough quality in the English leagues (unlike spain) without needing to bring in other teams reserves in. It would quite literally be the death of many lower league clubs as when they lost out on playing in the football league to these "reserve teams" they lose the interest of fans and money from the media making it even harder for them to survive. You start to lose the local and regional outreach that these community clubs have because they aren't even in the football league, and so less kids are engaged in football and are less likely to play. Likewise this also helps to preserve the status quo, with the rich becoming richer as with these reserve sides in the championship mean there are less sides that can get promoted and take a piece of the financial pie. You would also end up with teams like chelsea creating more Vitesses and just buying up every half decent young player in town and farming them out.

theres some truth in that, but i really dont think we should compensate for the greed and short sightedness of the top clubs and prem in general, by sacrificing smaller clubs

I Understand where you're coming from mind, it's an point which is overlooked, what about making teams feeder teams almost? Can't go higher than the Championship, but had an agreement to ship players freely throughout the season. Both teams benefit, and no teams get effected?

As you've argued it could end up like a Vitesse: Mark II, but I still think something where U21's are consistently playing frequent league football is crucial for the nation's pool to develop.

@barneydumble spot on lad. One of the only ones who realise that you're not ruining other clubs. People think that the likes of BARCA B and madrid castilla p*** that league
