Pre season reflections - Young players to the fore

...I think some or even most of the loanees will move on. They will have to be increasingly special to break through, not only because of the purchasing of first teasers but also the strategy of bringing in top young talent from around the globe.

There is definitely space in the squad for someone like Galloway and even Browning although if Kenny And Connolly push on this might effect them. Williams and Walsh are jn a very difficult position, with Davies having already broken through it makes it even more difficult as you can't have several youngsters in the middle of the park. If McCarthy and Basic move on and with Barry in the twilight of his career that may open a space next season though.

Hopefully our new found riches don't provide a blocker to the kids coming through.

My biggest fear. If Browning were left footed, he'd be in our squad 100%. He and Holgate are going to battle for that right side next year IMO.

The player i'm bemused about is Brendan Galloway (21) Galloway seemed the most likely to be Baines understudy (especially after we sold Oviedo) and yet we've seen him dropped by Pulis (who does this with every young loanee bar Lukaku who he usually brought off the bench) and quickly loaned out again by Koeman. Is he on the same ship as Browning and Pennington?

Pulis didn't loan Lukaku that was before his time there, quite a bit before if my memory is right . The point about young players is reasonably accurate but it's not a massive list , at West Brom at least . A young lad from Spurs , Galloway and the biggest name being Gnabry .

You're right, it was Clarke.

I would say not playing 3 loanees in a row proves my point. It's not 'reasonably accurate', its a fact based on sample size 3/3.

You just need to have read his Gnabry comments to see straight through him. Bizarre really as I thought Galloway being a defender would be different but sadly no one should loan to pulis.

...I'm afraid this is something we'll have to accept. If in the future we are as successful as we hope this is a price we will pay and nobody will really complain. Only the very, very best will come through. Especially local lads. We see it happening at Chelsea who regularly win the FA Youth Cup but rarely bring youngsters through.

Well actually he played sandro , who he loaned , quite a lot but obviously he was older . I'd say it's harder in that market with less money when you try for young player but mangers still look for bargains . Moyes for example signed a couple on loan who never played a single game like Said and Bonsar and you could actually put Dier in that group really statistically.

my major point was though that pulis was at stoke at the time lukaku was a West Brom .
